Who am I as a user researcher?

I am a mixed methods UX researcher based in the Netherlands. Currently, I am simplifying the online delivery experience for users of Just Eat Takeaway's global website and apps.

I also co-organize the Ladies that UX Utrecht and speak at conferences such as UXcon Vienna, 24hoursofux, DiscoConf about creating culturally accessible user experiences for global products.

Cultural empath

Need to understand your global users for your global brand? I plan and conduct multi-market user research in English, French, German, and Turkish to understand the needs of users on an international scale. My experiences living in 7 countries helps me enrich my research insights with the appropriate cultural context.

Impact-driven communicator

I measure my success by the impact my research has on business and product design decisions. Using my background in communications, I promote user research to the wide organisation to get more people to consume and buy into user research.

Storyteller with an eye for design

With a background in journalism and creative industries, I turn research findings into captivating visual stories full of actionable insights to guide successful design and business decisions.

What my colleagues say about me

I hired Rüya as a researcher on a short term contract. Rüya was fantastic from day one. Able to get off the ground running with a time-pressured project. She has stellar research skills across both quantitative and qualitative methods. She is a real pleasure to work with. Her attention to detail and positive approach make her a welcome addition to any team.

How my UX journey started

I have always been fascinated by how people interact with technology. My passion for new media users led me to a bachelor's in Communication Studies at the University of Vienna and a master’s in New Media at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, where I met User-Centered Design.

I am passionately curious and get a kick out of solving complex design problems alongside creative innovators. I was awarded with Microsoft Azure Maker badge for my team and I’s contribution to the AI for Healthcare Hackathon 2021, an award given to those who “embody the maker spirit of creativity, curiosity, and determination”.

I am a true creative at heart and enjoy the creative design process as much as I do research, which is why I have previously explored audiovisual design with a double major in Theater, Film, and Media.

Beyond my work, I love discovering new cultures, ways of living and languages.  In the last ten years, I lived in seven different countries and managed to learn five languages.
I also lead a yogic lifestyle, seeking balance in my life just as I do in my work, and enjoy being surrounded by plants and my cat Réglisse. My biggest weakness are sweets.
